Owner Vivienne Cable has created her famous “Wardrobe Workout” which literally helps you get your wardrobe organised.

“I have found clients become emotionally attached to their wardrobe and it becomes difficult for them to clean it out,” she says.

“Their wardrobes are full of clothes that are no longer appropriate or no longer fit. Many people buy styles and clothes that do not really suit them.”

Wardrobe Workout to the rescue

Clearing out someone’s wardrobe makes a huge impact. Like the fridge your wardrobe need to be reviewed regularly to check for use by dates. 

Generally we work on one season at a time including trans seasonal clothing. First we remove every item from the wardrobe and review it piece by piece.

• Clothes that are the wrong colour, wrong style, wrong fabric or wrong size are put in a pile.
• Clothes that fit properly and are flattering are returned to the wardrobe.
• Casual clothes at placed at one end and more formal clothes at the other.

As we go through the clothes and shoes, we look for ways in which the clothing could be mixed and matched to make new outfits.

At the end of the wardrobe review we have three piles:

• clothing that is totally unsuitable for you and that can be given to charity
• orphaned items of clothing that don't go with anything in your wardrobe
• clothing that requires alterations, and 
• a shopping list of the key items still needed.

Everyone has some 'orphans'

Sadly we all have all have items of clothing that we love but that don't have a partner.

• You or your washing machine may have 'worn out' the top or bottom.
• You may have bought something on sale without a partner that is still in your wardrobe with the tag still on.
• Fashions may have changed.

You're advice is tremendous.

You had been gone about one hour and I put my rejects in the boot of the car, with the exception of a couple of pants which will go to a friend whose daughter lives & works in Africa to distribute to the local women.

Since I have stopped working I have been struggling and stuck for the longest time as to what to wear day to day. When I go shopping the women look so 'tired' in those jeans, short T-shirts and runners. This morning I have my cargo pants & mustard yellow top on in place of my tracky-dack pants....so tired of them. Even feel my friends can come and pick me up for coffee without me having to change & try & decide how to look 'coolly casual'.

As well, funny to say, but I now have permission so that I can wear what I put on in the morning and not save it/change when I come home which is a hang over from working. Much better use for my clothes.
